The shofar (ram’s horn) has deep meaning in Judaism, in terms of biblical history and religious practice. It was sounded at Mount Sinai when the Jews received the Torah directly from God. When the Holy Temple stood, the shofar was blasted at special occasions such as holidays and to announce the Jubilee year. The shofar was commonly taken out to war as a call to battle. Judaism teaches that the shofar will be sounded to herald the coming of the Messiah.

In modern times, the shofar is sounded in synagogues on the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah). Jews will hear 100 shofar blasts as a reminder to re-coronate God as King. According to Maimonides, the shofar’s piercing sounds are saying, "Awake, sleepers from your sleep,” as the time has come to repent and come closer to God.

According to the Talmud, a shofar can be made from the horn of any animal in the Bovidae family, except that of a cow. The Kudu Shofar is sometimes called the Yemenite Shofar, as the original Yemenite Jews did not have sheep or goats, so they used the horn of the kudu. Because shofars are a natural product, no two shofars are alike. While most ram's horn shofars are light in color, some are dark or even multi-colored. Expect variations in the coloring and exact size and shape. Shofars are sized allowing for a two and a half to five centimeter range.

Each Shofar Horn is Made in Israel.
